Well, February was a bust. I haven’t been able to breathe, let alone write, plan or DO anything. It was a mix of crazy work schedule, exams, kid birthday, baby dental surgery and flus and colds. Not a fun month. Here I was thinking January was bad!
Anyway, I lost a LOT of time. And energy. I’m having trouble finding the motivation I had just a month ago, which is depressing. I look out the back door and there’s no change. We haven’t done enough work in the basement to get rid of the bin, and I have to use my vacation week this month to finish up down there rather than clear out the back yard. I haven’t had a full day off from work AND housework AND kid appointments to be able to go to City Hall to get the permit to deal with the tree. Whine, whine, whine.
So, it’s time for me to regroup. I need to shuffle my plans, re-prioritise and get things down to the level we can actually manage this year now that we’re so behind. Tomorrow night I’m going to post my new plans for scaling the garden down. I am probably not going to be able to deal with chickens at least until the fall, but I’m not sure how much I need to cut from the garden…
On a more positive note, the edible landscape at the preschool is a GO! I am leading up the group planning it. We have to have our materials and everything in for Friday (not much time!!) and so I’ve got to do some reading on the best, most hardy plants considering that they won’t be able to spend *that* much time out there. They also need to be plants that kids love, not things like onions… I think it would be good though to think of foods that kids can bring home, even if they may not love them off the bat. They need to learn to LOVE their kale haha!
If you have suggestions about the edible garden in terms of plants, construction or placement please either comment here or email me.
See you tomorrow!
