As you know I’m desperate for chickens. I’ve been told I should wait, by the man. He knows I often take on more than I can chew, and we have a lot of work left to do on our basement.
That said everyone I’ve asked (mostly online at backyardchickens.com or take back urban homestead(s) has said that once you have a coop the day to day of looking after chickens is minimal at most. Like 5-10 minutes a day minimal.
I have all the supplies s I need to build a coop, except the hardware cloth. I think I’d have to put $50-100 into that if I can’t find it on freecycle, it’s costly. Otherwise I have everything I need. My Dad is happy to build the coop with me in return for eggs, and he thinks it would take us a weekend. So I think it would take 3.
So how do I convince the man it’s OK? Or am I being naive? It’s true we need to concentrate on getting our basement finished, but he has 7 weeks off work and I have 3 to do that – why can’t I have a few weekends? 🙂
